What I Ate Wednesday: Simple Eats

I know today is “What I Ate Wednesday,” but I have to share a wee bit about yesterday.  I swam laps in the morning, and that made me sooooo hungry and tired for the rest of the day.

Speaking of tired, I got the kitties new toys last night, so we played like champs.  Leia was totally tuckered out by bedtime.

Okay, now on with the eats…

Breakfast this week includes half a banana before my workout, then 100 calories of oats + 80 calories of protein, and the other half of the banana once I get to the office.  Soooo hungry by the time I get there!

Lunch is boring but wonderful.  No new veggie bowl recipes this week!  It’s a turkey wrap with lettuce, mustard, and leftover shredded carrots.  I pair that with tart, green grapes.

Snack has been good, but it was too small Monday and Tuesday.  I had carrots with 1.5 servings of hummus.  I am bringing a couple extra crackers for the other days this week.

Sorry – no snack pics.  Then again, do you really need more photographs of yummus?  I think probably not.

Dinner has been excellent.  I’m the queen of simple meals, and Monday’s was pretty much perfect.

Dessert included two graham crackers (not pictured).   Tuesday’s dinner wasn’t bad either…

Of course, cooking meat for dinner draws extra attention to the dinner table.

I promise I don’t drink a beer every night with dinner.  It’s actually very rare that I drink mid-week at all, but these were just hitting the spot.  Plus, they’ve been in my fridge for months, and I’m sick of looking at them.

What is the best thing you’ve eaten recently?  Do you think other people’s eats are interesting?

I like checking out other people’s healthy meal ideas.  Check out all the great eats at Peas and Crayons’ weekly WIAW post:

Oh, and just because there isn’t another giveaway going on right now doesn’t mean you can’t follow me anyway.  Find me @LoveSweatBeers!

Now, I bet you’re expecting a review of one of the products, right???  I’m sorry to disappoint, but that’s not going to happen, at least not today.  I tried to use my free spread/dip coupon, but the grocery store near me who used to carry the goods has quit ordering them.  I guess I could go online and order some, but that isn’t exactly in the budget.  You have to pay for expedited shipping and cold packs, plus I don’t think I’d be able to use my coupon.  ::insert sad face here::

What’s a girl to do when she has a sad face?  Why, eat ice cream and play with kitties of course!  Check out my ice cream from TJ’s.  It’s delicious, but it’s so small that I think I’m more hungry after I eat it!

What’s your favorite cheese alternative?  Is it homemade or pre-packaged like WayFare’s goodies?

Trader Joe’s Needs to Pay Me!

With as much as I blog about TJ’s, I think I deserve to see a wee bit of their advertising budget coming my way.  After vacation, we found the cupboards bare.  (Did I just say cupboard?  Is this a Dicken’s novel?)  I knew a big shopping trip was in order, so naturally, I decided to hit up my local TJ’s.  No, it’s not as awesome as the one in Los Angeles, but it’s still pretty darn cool.

I am doing “real food” June.  It’s a silly thing I’m trying, which was very inspired by Lisa Leake at 100 Days of Real Food.  While I think eating real and wholesome foods is not silly, I feel a little silly doing it.  Let me know what you think of them in the comments.  I have pasted the rules below, but please check out Lisa’s blog for more details, recipes, mini challenges, and even her experience completing 100 days of real food on a budget.  (I’m all about the budget!)

The Rules: Things to Avoid

  1. No refined grains such as white flour or white rice (items containing wheat must say WHOLE wheat…not just “wheat”)
  2. No refined sweeteners such as sugar, any form of corn syrup, cane juice, or the artificial stuff like Splenda
  3. Nothing out of a box, can, bag, bottle or package that has more than 5 ingredients listed on the label
  4. No deep fried foods
  5. No “fast foods”

I’m not so sure I can really do this, but it’ll be fun to try.  I think the rule about “5 ingredients” is particularly silly – only because it’s so subjective.  What if one of the ingredients is terrible for you?  I’m totally reading into this too much.  Try and pick things with ingredients that sound wholesome.  For instance, I just got cheese from TJ’s with five ingredients, but it was the most wholesome cheese I could find.  Speaking of TJ’s, I wanted to blog my experience.
I started out with this.  It is a list of my (and Kevin’s) meals for the week and the respective shopping list.

My List

I then got all this for $78.  Whaaaa?  Yes!  I scored all the loot for two people for a week (no eating out) for $78.  The meat isn’t organic, but it is all-natural and antibiotic-free.  The eggs, quinoa, beans, and a few other things are organic.  I do what I can.  I’m no superhero.

I’d like to add that I only had one coupon.  That’s why you see the Morningstar Veggie Burgers in the pic.  I do not consider them a “whole food,” but Kev may want to snack on them at some point this week.  If not, they’ll keep in the freezer until the end of June.
By the way, when you put your groceries in one end of the kitchen and try to put them in the fridge, your cat might do this for attention.

It’s okay though.  Kitties like it when you shop at TJ’s.
