Blogging About Blogging…

I have had something on my mind for a few weeks, and I finally decided to just come out and discuss it with than my wise and insightful readers. (I’m about to ask for your help and advice, so consider yourself buttered.)

  1. I am thinking of changing the look and backbone of the blog. However, I am not looking to do many (if any) changes to content.
  2. I would also like to drop the “Wordpress” from my URL. It’s not all that inconvenient, but I’m a bit of a perfectionist.
  3. Lastly, I’d like to throw up some advertisements. I’ve been happy with readership and company samples, but as a competitive chick, I’m always looking to push to the next level.

So this is where you come in…

Have any of you bloggers had experience with self hosting, creating your own theme/header, or finding sponsors? Is it hard? Expensive? Time consuming? Restricting?

Any advice you can send me via tweet @LoveSweatBeers, email at lovesweatandbeers@yahoo.com, or as a comment to this post would be greatly appreciated.

In other blog news…

I won a giveaway! Woohoo! Janetha from Meals and Moves sent me the Izze package.

Izze Coupons, Hat, & Keychain

I have only tried their products once when I took a sip of my friend’s orange flavored Izze soda. Her soda had a little added something (starts with a “v” and rhymes with “odka”). It was good, but being the beer girl that I am, I decided a sip was enough.

Izze

I’m really looking forward to trying these. Many of us have memories of comfort food, but I have a very strong memory of a comfort beverage. I used to love getting grape sodas from mini golf (put-put) vending machines on hot summer days. Mom didn’t let me get them often (thanks Ma!), but they were a real treat. I wonder if Izze can take me down memory lane. (Crossing fingers!)

  1. Do you have hints, tips, or suggestions for me? Even constructive criticism is welcome!
  2. Have you tried Izze products? If so, what did you think?

PS: I tried a new brew last night, and I can’t wait to tell you all about it! Maybe that’ll be a good weekend post…

Happy 4th of July!

Happy Independence Day!  Like many Americans, I will be attending a barbeque later this afternoon.  I won’t be enjoying any beers, but I did get these really awesome hot dogs to grill.  They are organic, uncured beef dogs made by Applegate Farms.  We had some last night, and I’m excited to enjoy them again later today.

Sooooo Yum

I know the 4th of July is not traditionally a gift-giving holiday, but it’s time to announce the winner for my Food Should Taste Good giveaway.  Are you as excited as I am?!?  I hope so.

Chip Winner

The random number generator chose Heather at Where’s The Beach.  Congrats Heather!  Shoot me an email with your address and top five flavor choices, and Food Should Taste Good will send goodies your way.  The flavor choices are found on my initial giveaway post.

Now that I’ve had more time to try the other flavors, I want to finish reviewing them.  I already reviewed white cheddar and jalapeno.  The cheddar is great and requires no dip.  The jalapeno is hot but manageable – and delicious.

Kev and I brought the bag of sweet potato chips with us to the beach, and we devoured the entire bag in the car.  They are a wee bit salty and a wee bit sweet.  These chips are not busting with flavor, but they’re still really good.  I think they’d be good PMS food, but naturally, Kevin has no comment.

sweet p

They're shaped like lil' sweet potatoes!

I like the multigrain chips, but they need a dip or topping.  They were pretty darn good with cheese and salsa, as you can see from today’s lunch.  I also think olive or artichoke tapenade would be great.  I wish the flax were ground instead of whole since our bodies don’t digest it whole, but I still appreciate the high-quality ingredients.

Nachos!

I was not as crazy about the works.  They are like an everything bagel, sort of.  The main flavor is onion, which is kind of nice, but it’s just not my thing.  If you like onion bagels, you’d love these things.  You also taste caraway seed, but a little something extra, like sun-dried tomato, would make them more enjoyable.

And now, to wrap up the post, I leave you with a few pics from my weekend.  Have a great holiday!

Good Things for Thursday (and a giveaway!)

I know it’s usually “Three-mile Thursday” around here (and yes, I still went for a run this morning), but today it’s “Good Things Thursday!”  Who doesn’t like good things?!?!

1 – Yesterday, I treated myself to a non-office coffee.  I’ve stated my distaste for the hot mud work coffee, so this is a treat.

coffee

That's a happy thumbs-up stick Tiff, not an angry, obscene-gesture-making stick Tiff.

Today I got more non-office coffee since I worked out at home instead of the gym, thus giving my access to both my shower and my coffee maker.  Simple pleasures…

2 – I came home to a whole lot of awesome yesterday.  Leia was pretty pumped about the greatness.  Food Should Taste Good was kind enough to send me 5 bags of goodies to review.  Wowzers – that’s a lot of chips!

Can I Has A Chip? Nom Nom Nom

Food Should Taste Good allowed me to choose which of the flavors I wanted to review, and trust me, it was no easy choice.  Their flavor lineup includes Multigrain, Sweet Potato, Olive, Jalapeño, The Works!, Chocolate, Lime, Blue Corn, Cheddar, Toasted Sesame, and White Cheddar.

After work, I savagely tore into opened, White Cheddar and Jalapeno.  The White Cheddar flavor was very tasty.  The chips are very crunchy, like regular corn chips, but there’s an added grainy texture, which I happen to like.  No greasy chip fingers here; they are like cracker/chip hybrids.  White Cheddar is not loaded with flavor, like Doritos or Cheetos, but your mouth and fingers do not turn florescent orange.  Score!  There’s just enough cheddar flavor to be satisfying.

Naked Chip - No Dip Needed

I think I prefer the jalapeno chips.  They are still very crunchy and grainy, but the extra kick is really nice.  It’s the tip-of-your-tongue hot, not wasabi all-up-in-your-buggers hot.  Neither chip will satisfy a salty craving, just FYI.

Lucky for me, I happened to have an amazing pairing on-hand at home.  Now, I’m not saying you need beer, a dip, or anything else in order to enjoy these chips.  However, I recommend having water handy if you have a low tolerance for spicy.  They’re not that hot, but there’s my warning.

beer n' chip

Read Below + Hear Me On This One!

Pairing a chip with a beer might sound… different, but let’s face it, pairing this flavor with a great craft brew like Victory Hop Devil (which scored 99/100 on Rate Beer and A+ by “The Bros” at Beer Advocate) is definitely a good thing!  Neither bitter beer nor spicy chip overpowered the other, and while the malt balanced the spice, the light hint grapefruit makes the pairing like a cabana party in my mouth.

  • Note, I only had a few drinks of Kev’s beer – one of those babies clocks in at 215 calories per 12 oz.  Yikes!

3 – The last good thing for Thursday is a giveaway!  Hooray!  Food Should Taste Good is giving away 5 more bags of their goodies to one lucky reader.

You want to win this; the company representative told me their “our all natural tortilla chips are made from real, simple ingredients. All of our chip varieties are free of cholesterol, preservatives and trans fat, and do not use genetically modified ingredients (GMOs).  They are also certified Kosher and Gluten Free, lower in sodium, and are a good source of dietary fiber.”

All you have to do is follow me on Twitter, and leave a comment telling me two things: (1) that you follow me on Twitter and (2) the flavor interests you the most.  Do this by Monday, and you could be the winner!

Good luck!

Go Ahead, Make My Day

Can anyone name that movie?  I know the title of this post is a movie quote, but I can’t remember its movie of origin.  Moving on.  I’d like to take a little time to share five things that are currently making my day.  Enjoy!

1 – I changed it up yesterday.  I usually hit the gym in the morning, but lately I’ve been feeling like this:

sleepy

So instead I got up at the same time to complete an easy 20-minute kickboxing workout video and take my time getting ready for work.  After work, I went to body pump for a total body workout.  I’ll have to skip my workout Friday due to travel plans, so body pump actually covered two gym sessions.  I also ran this morning.  It was a mere 2 miles because of knee issues – courtesy of body pump.

2 – I got to drink my coffee at home today and yesterday due to today’s run and yesterday morning’s home workout.  I love hitting the gym, but drinking my own coffee is such a joy.  Work coffee is downright dreadful!

I’m not sure if that goofy face is just my excitement or a sign of too much caffeine.

3 – I’m one of the Applegate Farms coupon winners!  I received the coupons Lindsay sent me for winning her giveaway.  Check out her blog if you haven’t already!

Leia wants Applegate goodies; she loves roast beef!

4 – I managed to only eat one flavorless cookie at the office dip party.  I also refrained from cheese dip, ranch dip, spinach dip, sausage dip, and other random chips n’ such.  I did steal a little hummus and pico for the broccoli, a crappy cookie, and my own peach.  All-in-all, I’m proud of myself.

5 – The last thing that is currently making my day is short n’ sweet: OPI Cajun Shrimp nail polish and nude pumps.  Woohoo!

Oh, and just because there isn’t another giveaway going on right now doesn’t mean you can’t follow me anyway.  Find me @LoveSweatBeers!

Now, I bet you’re expecting a review of one of the products, right???  I’m sorry to disappoint, but that’s not going to happen, at least not today.  I tried to use my free spread/dip coupon, but the grocery store near me who used to carry the goods has quit ordering them.  I guess I could go online and order some, but that isn’t exactly in the budget.  You have to pay for expedited shipping and cold packs, plus I don’t think I’d be able to use my coupon.  ::insert sad face here::

What’s a girl to do when she has a sad face?  Why, eat ice cream and play with kitties of course!  Check out my ice cream from TJ’s.  It’s delicious, but it’s so small that I think I’m more hungry after I eat it!

Big News: My First Giveaway

Step aside CNN!  Today I have my own news to share: mini news, minor news, and mega news.  Let’s just jump on in, shall we?

Mini News

I tried my first Peas and Thank You recipe Sunday night, courtesy of Mama Pea.  I actually found it first on Gina’s blog, Running to the Kitchen, and I am soooooo glad I made it too!  I followed all instructions, except I added a little can of green chilies.  They’re not spicy, and the recipe’s lack of green was bothering me.  Trust me – you want to add those.  They blend fabulously!

mexi madness

I ❤ Casseroles!!!

Just look how pretty it is!  The original recipe says it serves 6-8, but I know good and well that one glass Pyrex dish of goodness only serves 4 in my house.  Kev and I shared half of it Sunday and devoured the second half last night.

yummies

It was hard to resist digging in before photographing!

Kevin like it, but I’m not sure if he was as blown away as I wasy.  Also, the olives are a nice touch, but they’re totally unnecessary.  They don’t really add to the flavor; they just look pretty.

Minor News

I first visited Italy when I was in the 9th grade (I think it was around that time???), and I bought pants in Rome.  Old news?  No.  The real news is that I can still wear those pants.  Winning!  (Please don’t bust my bubble and tell me they’re out of style!)

Mega News

Seriously, this is huge.  It’s like news for the Hulk, but much less angry.  I am doing my very first giveaway!  The kind folks at WayFare Foods sent me a bunch of coupons to give away to lucky readers.  I will also be trying some of the free goodies they sent, so stay tuned for an honest review.  Here’s a tidbit from their website:

WayFare Foods

I am soooo excited to give this stuff a try.  I’m not a vegan, but I’m big on animal welfare.  (I hope that doesn’t sound hypocritical!)  Also, ever since I tried that fabulous “not-cho” cheese sauce, I’ve wanted to gorge myself dabble in other cheese alternatives.  WayFare’s current products include Cheddar-Style Spread, Hickory-Smoked Cheddar-Style Spread, Cheddar-Style Dip, Mexi Cheddar-Style Dip, and We Can’t Say It’s Sour Cream.

twitter

In order to celebrate the first giveaway, I’ve started my very first Twitter account.  (Hopefully I’ve got it set-up okay!)  Follow me on Twitter @LoveSweatBeers or leave a comment telling me which Wayfare Foods product you’d most like to try, and I’ll randomly select a winner on Tuesday, June 14.  Yes, you can enter twice!  Be sure to send your friends over so that they can enter too!
