Weekend Rewind

Why did the weekend have to end? Ever? Sigh… I think someone’s got a case of the Mondays…

Instead of being bummed about sitting in my cubicle for the next 5 days, I think I’d like to re-live some weekend fun. Thursday, Kev and I celebrated IPA Day with friends. Friday, we grilled out with neighbors. Mmmm… burgers. Saturday, we had a date day. I know you all are probably familiar with “date nights,” but this was sort of an extended version.

Then we got cleaned up like twins (I promise I had on a cute skirt and didn’t totally bum it):

I had an Old Hickory Hefe with my pizza. I do not recommend it. I also wasn’t all that crazy about my pizza (caramelized onion, prosciutto, and kalamata olives – thought it would have been better). What I did like – the restaurant had half-pints of beer. I got to try 2 beers but only had the quantity of one. Score! Kev liked his pizza:

So to make up for pizza mediocrity, I stopped here on the way home.

Kev doesn’t eat sweets, so he didn’t get any frozen yogurt. I used to feel like a fat kid when he made me get ice cream alone… I got over it.

Last but not least, I defied my podiatrist’s orders Sunday. A girl can’t wear sneakers to church ya’ know!

So that was the weekend in a nutshell. I hope this upcoming weekend is a little healthier. Couldn’t be toooo much worse, right? ūüôā Stay tuned this week, I’m starting a new workout and have a new lunch bowl recipe.

I’m Not Hip

You guys probably figured out I’m not too hip, but this really isn’t about my lack of trendiness. ¬†Nope, it’s actually about my hip. ¬†It hurts. ¬†I was so pumped to run 4-5 miles today with music, thanks to the new armband I received earlier this week. ¬†When I got out of bed though, all I could think was OuOuOuOuch! ¬†I think my IT band might be super tight from biking yesterday at the gym, but I’m not actually sure what it is. ¬†All I know is that my right hip hurts, and if I run, I will hurt it worse.

Therefore, I had a wee bit of cereal with almond milk, some plain coffee, and a purple monster to drown my sorrows. ¬†By the way, when I say “plain” coffee, I mean “black” coffee. ¬†When I went up North (*gasp*) and asked for plain coffee, the guy almost put creamer or something in it. ¬†I was like, woah woah woah! ¬†I said plain buddy! ¬†Then as I complained to Kevin (the resident yankee), he informed me that in some areas of the country, plain is not synonomous with black. ¬†Really? ¬†Can anyone explain to me what else plain could mean? ¬†Sugar, cream, milk, D – all of the above??? ¬†Just curious.

I think I’ll probably do a little pilates or light yoga to stretch things out in hopes of getting that run in tomorrow morning instead. ¬†We have two of Kevin’s college roomies staying at our house this weekend. ¬†Because the boys stayed up late polishing off a bottle of whiskey and a few beers, they are still in bed. ¬†I should have plenty of time to get in some downward facing dog or other awkward poses before any guests come downstairs. ¬†Oh, and did I mention I hated whiskey? ¬†I tried to clean up the kitchen a bit this morning, and just smelling that stuff made me nautious. ¬†Oh well – not everything’s for everyone, right?

For anyone who is interested, I do Denise Austin pilates/yoga, my own blend of routine/stretches, or easy workouts from Exercise TV’s website. ¬†Here is a link to a good pilates one, and here is a link to a good yoga one. ¬†I might do something lighter than those today, but they’re pretty good.

You know what else is good? ¬†Water pilates! ¬†(Yep, when the boys finally wake from their slumber, we’ll be hitting the lake again. ¬†Woohoo!)

A+ Saturday

Yesterday consisted of running, shopping, and boating. ¬†In summary, I’d say it was another A+ Saturday. ¬†I started with a 4-mile run on a new trail. ¬†It’s not far from the house, but I don’t generally drive to run. ¬†I completed the run in 33 minutes, and I’d like to thank a random jogger for my success. ¬†Halfway through the run, he gave me a thumbs up instead of the general head nod, wave, or “hello.” ¬†For whatever goofy reason, it perked me up and gave me a little turbo boost. ¬†Thumbs up, Champ!

After the run, I stopped by the farmer’s market. ¬†Kale, cabbage and 3 lbs of local, natural pork. ¬†I ¬†see a crock pot dinner in the near future! ¬†Upon arriving home, I made a purple monster. ¬†I got the idea for monster’s from Angela’s Green Monster Movement. ¬†They look gross unique, but they’re amazing. ¬†You don’t even taste the greens.

  • 3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk (or milk of choice)
  • 1 cup frozen raspberries
  • 2 handfuls of fresh spinach
  • Almost 1 full scoop of all-natural vanilla soy protein powder

Whirl it up in a blender or food process and BAM! ¬†There’s breakfast! ¬†(I guess it’s really breakfast number two given I had that pre-run Larabar.) ¬†I generally prefer to have a frozen banana and some ground flax in there, but there’s always tomorrow!
